Would-be buyers go to realtors only to return to a lender to determine how much home they can afford to buy. As the owner of a firm that specialized in underwriting mortgage loans, I saw plenty of mistakes made by loan officers failing to put the home buyer into the right mortgage. As a loan servicer, I heard the horrible stories of what happens when families lose their home because the loan officer was more concerned with making money than they were at making the right loan.
